Info post (always in progress)

Kelsei comes from a culture where death is treated as the ultimate celebration of life. To die is to acknowledge that one has lived to their fullest and their story has come to a close. And in a similar way, to be killed is to be acknowledged as one who influenced the world. After all, if someone's life were worth nothing, there would be no reason to put forth the effort to get rid of them.

The Dacelus were born out of this philosophy ages ago, and continue to exist to this day.

Personality

Kelsei is arrogant, proud, and a little coarse. She's one of the strongest people in her world, and she knows it. Even beyond being an assassin, she's just not really a nice person. Kelsei is selfish, and though she's curious about others, unless she has a use for them, she doesn't actually care about them. That being said, if someone catches her interest, she will go out of her way to help them, at least for what she considers "help". If nothing else, it means that if she wants you alive, the chances of you dying are pretty low.

Kelsei doesn't have many hobbies outside of her training, but she thoroughly enjoys watching and talking to people. She's blunt, sometimes to the point of being a bit cruel, and enjoys pushing people's buttons from time to time. She will talk about death and killing casually, sometimes just for the shock value but also simply because she's been raised to not think of them as heavy subjects.

She has a quiet persona that she adopted while lying low in university, prior to her public reveal as a Dacelus. Kelsei hid the true nature of her personality by speaking as little as possible. She would avoid situations where she thought she'd be tempted to use her magical ability, earning her a bit of a reputation as a coward.

Sexually, Kelsei is a bisexual who leans female enough that she says she's a lesbian, though she enjoys sex enough that she's willing to put up with some men for the sake of getting it. She doesn't get emotionally attached to her partners but will definitely call someone back if she enjoyed them the first time around. She enjoys bondage from either side despite the fact that culturally that's strange, given that being restrained is an integral part of her job.

As a warning, if Kelsei gets particularly set on someone, she does not necessarily wait for consent. I will not play this aspect of her without arranging it ahead of time.

History

Kelsei grew up in the city of Umbrafel, the capital city of Elinne. As the origin of dark magic and the Dacelus as well as the home of the largest collection of dark mages, Elinne is one of the few countries where they are not considered terrorists. Umbrafel serves as one of the major headquarters for the Dacelus as an organization.

All Dacelus begin training around age 4. Any child who displays or is expected to display sufficient potential begins the training. As they get older, the training gets stricter, and those without the skill or aptitude are dismissed.

Until she reached the age of 20, Kelsei trained with an ever-dwindling number of peers. Though primarily based in Umbrafel, she visited many locations for many different training exercises. When possible, she attended school as normal. At 18, her future membership in the Dacelus was guaranteed and her partner, Sharon Flowens, was selected, and the two of them together moved to the city of Alnrite in the country Reis. The two pretended not to know each other and attended universities separately, but they continued training together until they finished the regiment. After that, it was just a matter or waiting.

New Dacelus are particularly valuable because they aren't yet in the public eye, so they can get close to targets that would otherwise be difficult to approach. As a result, Kelsei and her partner didn't receive their first mission until nearly a year later. Their first target was a light mage named Flowa Lowis, and they infiltrated a conference in order to get close enough to complete the job. Several days later, their identities went public, and Kelsei's daily life shifted.

Magic

Magic is harnessing the power of humanity's collective unconsciousness and its acknowledgement of the powers of the world around them. The many forces of nature, the elements--fire, lightning, wind, ice, water, gravity, earth, wood--and the way they interact with both life and death, form the bases of all magic that humans can control.

The primary way of invoking magic is through spells. Depending on the level of the spell and the user, there are many methods of casting. Spells can be channeled via their name, an associated gesture, an incantation, some combination of the three, or none at all. The more methods that are used at once, the easier it is on the caster to produce the spell. The fewer used, the more energy and skill it requires.

For most people, their magical ability is tied to an element. However, those who are known as light or dark mages have their ability tied to the locus of life or death without being bound to specific elements. Through different bloodlines people may have different blends of these, sometimes controlling two elements, or sometimes even more with a focus towards life or death. In some cultures, including Kelsei's, pedigree and the resulting magical focus are considered important or desirable. It is possible to have the ability to use the full spectrum of magic across all elements and both loci, but individuals possessing those abilities are inevitably short-lived and often unstable.

Every type of magic has its quirks. For dark magic, one's ability can be amplified by being sealed off from the normal methods of casting. That is, a user who cannot speak freely or move freely can still gain the benefits of incanting or gesturing without being able to do so, if they have trained to do so effectively. For this reason, Dacelus work in pairs: one is primarily responsible for restraining the other, and one is responsible to translate that restraint into force. Kelsei's role is the latter.

As an overcompensation for this restraint, dark mages have developed what are called "shadows". They are essentially an extension of the self, able to hear and perceive the world around them, with some restriction, from a point outside the user's own body. Shadows can see and interact with each other but generally cannot interact with the real world, though at high enough levels of skill they can also serve as the origin point for a spell instead of a user's real body. They are generally imperceptible to anyone other than shadows, though some users with sufficient mastery of life magic can also sense them. The better one's abilities and the more restrained they are, the more shadows they can support at one time, though users are also often limited by the amount of information their mind can process. Many dark mages wear a blindfold in their daily life and use a singular shadow as their vision. Kelsei and others around her level can support a shadow without any level of restraint, and thus use it as a second set of eyes along with their own in daily life.
