It's a breed of magic cultivated to thrive in the worst of conditions. The more desperate, restrained, or cornered the user is, the stronger it becomes. It is devoid of all healing; it is heavily lacking in defense; it excels at raw power. Most magic users can wield only a single element, and through that element can manifest attacks, shields, and cures. But dark magic cuts across all elements, taking only the worst of everything, and adding its own twisted edge. It is practiced by those who worship death itself, and in doing so lack any qualms over taking life or fighting to the very end of their own.

The very pinnacle of dark mages are those carefully raised from birth for one sole purpose: killing. It is said that the only ones marked for dead who have eluded their grasp have done so by taking their own lives first. They belong to a group of assassins known as Dacelus, an ancient word encompassing dying and the afterlife. In most parts of the world, they are classified as a terrorist group and marked as eliminate on sight. After all, they can't be captured. That would only make them stronger.

Kelsei and her partner are the most recent pair to be publicly revealed as Dacelus, following their high-profile assassination of one of the most powerful light mages. Kelsei's former persona, a quiet and unremarkable college student, has slowly fallen by the wayside since the announcement, but she still attends her classes as if nothing had changed. If anyone could actually stop her from doing so, she'd already be dead.
